On this International Women’s Day, the GEF Groundwater for Advancing Resilience in Africa (G4DR) project celebrates the vital role of women in groundwater management, sustainable water use, and climate resilience. Across Africa, women are at the forefront of securing household water from wells and boreholes, managing groundwater-fed irrigation for agriculture, and leading community-driven efforts to protect and sustain aquifers.
Through G4DR, we are committed to strengthening gender-inclusive groundwater strategies by empowering women and marginalised communities with hydrogeological knowledge, access to groundwater data, and decision-making opportunities. By integrating women’s voices into groundwater governance and resource allocation, we can drive long-term, sustainable solutions that enhance resilience, protect critical groundwater reserves, and support equitable climate adaptation for all.
