Groundwater is the foundation of life and livelihoods across the African continent. Yet, despite being our largest water resource, it remains heavily under-utilised in strategic planning and, at the same time, vulnerable to over-extraction and pollution. The Groundwater for aDvancing Resilience in Africa (G4DR) project is transforming how we manage, protect and share the continent’s most vital unseen asset.

At G4DR, we believe that securing our shared transboundary aquifers is the key to advancing long-term climate resilience, food security, and community well-being.

Instead of just building infrastructure, G4DR builds the governance, data, and community networks needed to sustain it.

  • Policy & leadership: Supporting our key partners to operationalize a pan-African groundwater framework.
  • Transboundary data: Co-designing cross-border monitoring networks to turn invisible aquifers into actionable, shared data.
  • Grassroots ownership: Empowering women, youth, and local communities to take active ownership of their water resources.
