The African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), a key partner in the GEF G4DR Project led by IWMI, is hosting a series of consultations across Africa to shape the Post-2025 African Water Vision and Policy. These consultations aim to create an inclusive and comprehensive approach to water security for the continent’s future.
Objectives of the Consultations
These vital discussions seek to:
- Inform Member States about the progress of the Post-2025 African Water Vision and Policy roadmap.
- Gather essential inputs and priorities from Member States to guide policy development.
- Provide updates on AMCOW’s work programme.
- Encourage Member States to contribute data for the 2025 Water and Sanitation Sector
- Monitoring and Reporting (WASSMO) Report.
Regional Consultations Schedule
To capture diverse perspectives, AMCOW is conducting regional dialogues in the following locations:
- Eastern Africa: Tanzania | March 4-7, 2024
- Western Africa: Nigeria | March 17-19, 2024
- Southern Africa: Zimbabwe | March 24-26, 2024
Additional consultations will be scheduled in coordination with stakeholders in the other regions of the continent.
Relevance to the GEF G4DR Project
These consultations hold particular significance in regions where the GEF G4DR Project is actively working to integrate groundwater considerations into policy through strategic investments in the following landscapes:
- Shire Aquifer System (Malawi & Mozambique – Southern Africa)
- Mono Basin (Benin & Togo – West Africa)
- Upper Nile Water Management Zone (Uganda – East Africa)
